Résumé

Name: Mekalani Koko (actually it's Nikita, nobody ever calls me Mekalani Koko!) I am also known as "Kita", "Keets", "Doggan", "Mammas little girl" and "The prima donna".

Date and Place of Birth: 30th June, 1995; Melbourne, Australia (in mummy's garage)

Address: Near the park, down a long path with that tree on the right that smells real good

Education

I am still going to Husky Club school once every week and as usual they keep me busy with lots of homework. Winter class was lots of fun ... I even got to be on TV! We were inside a training centre, away from the cold wind and the rain. Last year in summer we trained at the local oval but this year we're using a backyard tennis court that belongs to a couple of the other dogs (well, OK, their bosses). Mum is still teaching the doggy parents, while I teach the other dogs how to be cheeky and get away with it. In return, they teach me how to act up like a puppy all over again! Dad is handling me during the lessons now, and he's starting to ask me to do more complicated things, but I am trying really hard to pretend I don't have a clue what he's talking about. Lately mum has banned other people from feeding me at class. She tells them it impedes her ability to be able to train me, but I know it is because she is trying to hide the fact that they get better food. Mum loves taking classes, and I think her and dad (who has given the odd lesson too) enjoy them as much as I do.

Employment

A new section in my résumé. JENNIE WILL WRITE IT ONE DAY!! Here I am in the magazine!

Skills

I can sleep just about anywhere inside (even on a bed after kicking mum off!). I also entertain visitors and those I visit. I delight in making kids give that wide-eyed excited look when I show them they are important by shaking hands with them. I can also charm strangers with my tricks, and mum even gives me food for doing this! I dig good holes, being appropriately sized for yummies or me just getting cool. I'd say I have also done some pretty neat renovations to my yard. I take this job very seriously, being the shovel-leaning foreman, when dad is digging, and he digs much bigger holes than me! Recently mum and dad have taken me to places with lots of other dogs where dad makes me trot around in patterns and stand still a lot while strange people eyeball me and give me a head-to-toe inspection. For this effort I get ribbons and sashes ... I wish they had something tastier instead! My best ability though is being calm. Not much fazes me, even when there were big noisy bulldozer machines in the street I was not frightened of them

Mum keeps written records of how she is doing with training, so you can see all the tricks I know.

Hobbies

Sleeping (usually with my head on a pillow), giving big kisses, and cleaning the kitchen floor still rate highly in my activity schedule. But my most favourite activity is playing. I will play with anyone. If I am not sleeping, I get annoyed if I am not noticed, so I am always trying new things to get attention (like suddenly doing that silly obedience retrieval mum has been trying to teach me for months). I really enjoy going out and about, because there are many more people to be my audience then. I like to pose until they call me beautiful, and being patted is lots of fun, especially by those smaller human creatures called children.

Personality

The big feature of a husky, I excel in this area. I am such a good girl, that plans to put me outside in a kennel at night soon became by the boss-bed on my futon (and on the bed in the morning), and on the bed all night if I want to just recently (but it gets too hot up there sometimes). My permanent sleeping place is the bed now, and I love to sleep in (mum sometimes kicks me out of bed at 2pm). I am also a lady. No one can make me do anything quickly. I curl my paws inward when I stretch, and I am always gentle with those human creatures. These days I saunter over to a human when I'm called (I don't care who called me, besides all your voices sound the same to me) because they might have something yummy to give, and I don't go for that leash pulling anymore: That is most undignified puppy behaviour! I love to lick, but not in a slobbery way, it is gentle and pleasant, so humans know they are special to me.

Favourite foods

Recently mum changed my diet to Trophy dog food, which is delivered complete with a vet check, a groom, defleaing and worming all thrown in. This is a busy year for mum and dad, so the package really suited them. Oh yeah, and I must say, I am surprised that some of the food comes from a can! It looks like the stuff mum used to cook. The dry food also smells pretty good, so I usually eat all my meals. I really pity dogs who eat that supermarket canned stuff (which I won't touch), because my meals are so tasty. I also like Royal Canin and Eukanuba, as well as the yummy pet-shop buffet collection. Most of all though, I'm a junk food addict. I loooove ice cream (especially Magnums), and Malteasers and M&Ms are among my other favourites (I know the exact tones of the M&M dispenser). I never get enough of them! Mum and dad tell me that they can't feed me too much chocolate because too much is poisonous to dogs, but I think they are making that up! {It's true Kita: Jennie} And I would do anything for a pig's ear! I also like summer because the nectarines grow on the tree in the back yard, and I reach up and steal them!

Family Relatives

Since I was born, my dogmum has had two further litters. Mum and dad helped during the birthings but I wasn't allowed to come :-( I don't see any of my brother and sister littermates any more, or any of my siblings from dogmum's second litter. Dogmum's third litter was born on 3rd July 98, and I visited several times to play with the puppies as they were growing up. I love all my brother and sisters: they are lots of fun to play with and I wish they could all come home and live with me. Mum and dad love watching them get up to their antics too! One of my sisters from the third litter is staying with dogmum and is trying really hard to undo all of her training! The current favourite activity is pulling clothes off the line when they flap invitingly in the wind ... what fun! (I'd never get away with it, besides I prefer the pegs to the clothes.) Dogmum, sister (the red one) and a brother (the black & white one) are coming to mum's training classes so I get to see them a lot these days.

References

Ian and Jennie (the boss dogs) think I am just wonderful, and I guess I haven't done so badly with them either. Firefrost, Pyrite and Rosey (the cats in my pack) have no idea, so don't believe a word they meow. Hudson (my boyfriend) loves me so much he asks me over to stay at his house sometimes and teaches me how to get really dirty.
